I think my hope for the future of humanity was just chopped in half. Then again, I find myself saying that so frequently nowadays that I don’t know how much hope is left.

It’s disgusting. These people in the media and whoever is writing/planning/whatever the stories that go on TV and in newspapers need to realize their responsibility. They are, for some, the primary source of news — it’s not just the issue that they’re excessively reporting on Michael Jackson; as you mentioned, it’s at the expense of other much more important issues.
