I think, at the end of the day, there are so many avenues in which sexism can infiltrate into our lives. The enlightened person attempts to pick and choose what media they expose themselves to (when possible). Books, in my opinion, are one of the highest forms of art and therefore have more artistic value than pornography.

In terms of porn…if you notice, the woman is always the “star” of the video…the man is rarely shown other than his penis and maybe half his body. For the (many) women watching porn, it would be nice to see HIS facial expressions and HIS entire body, rather than watch a beheaded man fuck a woman.

I’ve tried to remove porn from my life as well, since it is far too easy to get a warped sense of sex, sexuality and power play in the bedroom. That, and the fact that I’m deathly afraid of computer viruses, have resulted in most of my fantasies being created in my head :-)

I know I haven’t addressed the meat of your post — privilege. I’d like to encourage readers to post their own lists similar to Ian’s — in what ways do you recognize your privilege (male, white, affluent or otherwise)?
