Hey, I’m doing my dissertation on mosh pits and just saw this blog post. Very interesting, I hope you don’t mind if I quote a little bit of the article/comments. One of the main chapters of my essay will be on girls in the mosh pit, so if anyone (especially girls) had any stories of mosh pits and what it’s like (is it a liberating feeling, for example?) then I’d be massively grateful if they could comment on here or send me an email @ asherkenton@hotmail.com. What if you only have chucks, and you don’t have the money/time/resources to buy any other shoes? Do you think that wearing the chucks would be alright, if you didn’t kick anyone?

I have been to quite a few concerts, and seen a decent amount of people leave a mosh pit on a stretcher and in a neck brace, most of them were smaller sized girls or younger kids. Then again, the pits I’m talking about get pretty damn brutal, with guys well over the size a human should be.
After the terrible experience of having a girl run into me and then having her get knocked out after bouncing off of me and hitting the ground, I usually stay out of pits with girls in them unless they are around my size. It kind of ruined moshing for me to be honest.

Girl or boy, if your a smaller sized person, just be extra careful. These tips could really help anyone, regardless of size or gender, in a mosh pit.

the last big show I went to was LA Rising. There were many creeps there(at least through my experience), and saw relatives of a guy whod sexually assaulted me talking sh#* from a distance. My male cousin went with me, but since he drank half a gallon of a screwdriver in the parking lot before we went in he left early. I went to go get him water because it was scorching hot then I couldnt find him so he went home because he was so sick.. I was the only girl in the pit that I was in, and got knocked down haha, and I kept trying to back out of the pit, but for some reason I kept findin myself in it. I think some people were trying to put me back in. Stupid security check took my heavy stuff from my bag. What didnt help was I ate a very potent mj laced chocolate bar before the show and was psyching myself out for 5hours. If I didnt do that, I would have had a better time. Oh well, I still had fun :)

Oh good god, do I have some awesome moshing stories. I’m a girl and I’m only 5’3 so I’m a bit short compared to most in the pits, but that’s never stopped me. Don’t back out and get all scared! The worst that’s happened to me is when I bit through my tongue in a Suicide Silence pit. Not that bad, it somehow suctioned and sewed itsself back together the next day even though it was swollen forever. :P
And if you mosh the fuck out you’ll most likely be told you kick ass by multiple people.
It’s the best feeling ever.
So, girls, GO FOR IT. Feeeeel the adrenaline. Be alive! :)

i admire all u girls/guys who mosh and respect everyone in there. im absoulutly terrified of moshing i want to do it soooooo much!!! im a 14 year old girl who wants to go to warped tour next year and im nopt short but not strong just alil doughy ya no but i want to mosh but i also want to no how to spot a milder crowd to start with. tips?

ps i need to tips on how to handle the creeps at concerts any tips thx

Dellzz– I definitely think you should! You’ll have a ton of fun, and the rush of adrenaline (“oh my god I can’t believe i’m actually doing this!”) is worth it’s weight in gold.

wow, this has really made me wanna mosh. i’m a girl, about 5,5 and 96lbs. I’ve never moshed, but from standing near one, i had my fair share of bumps. Im seeing Trivium in december, and I plan to mosh, so I’ll keep all these tips in mind :) i go to a lot of local venue’s, but never moshed cause i must admit, a tad scared XD but you make sound fun and actually pretty safe, do you think i should? XD hehe, thank you for these amazing tips :’D x

This is a great piece of advice for all the girls out there. I’m a 24 yr old male, 5’10″, 11″ ish and wiegh over 200 lbs so after all the shows I’ve been to I’ve gotten to be somethin of a protector to most of the girls i see in pits. Seen of a lot of them take some bad hits. But for the first time in my life, yesterday in fact, I was at a show with Hollywood Undead, These hearts, and All that Remains here in Fargo, ND and the pit was crazy but there were girls about your size everywhere! I couldn’t believe it. I actually tried to count all of them and eventually gave up. These girls were gettin’ slammed around, chargin into guys when we did the wall of death, and THEY were the ones throwin up guy and girls for crowd surfing! The kind of girls I’ve always wanted to date lol. It was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen and after reading your post here I wonder just how many of them have read this post.

You’ve done a great thing here by showing girls how not to be afraid and inspire the confidence they need to get out there and enjoy one of the greatest feelings ever that you just cant replicate anywhere else.

I can’t think of any better feeling in the world than singing the words to the last song of the night after your exhausted and feel like you’ve been hit by a frieght train. theres a magic about and its good that more girls will be able to expiernce that.
