2. That Jezebel article was interesting, but Jezebel always leaves me wanting for more. Like, I want Melissa McEwan to go over there and kick ass with an even longer, more thought-out analysis. Anyway, 40%!!! That’s fucking awful… you know, though, (now I’m gonna do that analysis) we live in a culture where “everyday” porn is totally designed for guys. Playboy, Maxim, H&M… not to mention the daily images we see where women are objectified. I’m not calling for a total reversal of things (obviously, that would just leave guys feeling insecure and worthless), but if there were publicly acceptable raunch made for women, I think we’d be more open about this stuff. Sorry, but I don’t believe the stuff about men being more “visually turned on” than women. We’ve just trained ourselves, IMO, to think we can only be turned on by women. Ugh, makes me think of that chapter from Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters about guys and their porn… it was wanting for so much more. We really need more feminist studies on sex and sexuality. There’s so much to be explored.
3. Obama’s not even in office and he’s trying to reach the average American. He’s just making the fact Bush is “president” for the next month and half an even bigger a joke. I just hope and pray that he fixes this economy.
Ugh so part 2 should read, “A heterocentrist society focused on male pleasure has trained us to think only guys can be turned on by the bodies of the opposite sex” instead of “We’ve just trained ourselves to think we can only be turned on by women.” Hope that’s less garbled.
one book a week would be wonderful!! but a HUGE challenge, time wise.
i might give it a try though, 2 weeks for the REALLY long ones.
