Rotten Little Girls
by Kelly
When you hear the word “feminism,” inevitably images of bra-burning female radicals with unshaved armpits come to mind. And as funny as those images might be, they really don’t do much for feminism as a movement or academic study. In reality, men and women alike can be a part of feminism. Even if you don’t personally identify with the term “feminist,” many of us can sympathize with the issues concerning women today. That’s where this blog comes in. As two college-aged students, Harlequin and I hope to examine the world around us through the lens of our own brand of feminism.
Sure, you might argue that feminism has run its course, and women have gained so many rights since the “First wave” (think Susan B. Anthony and the suffrage movement) and “Second wave” of feminism (60’s & 70’s women’s rights movement). However, Harlequin and I agree that there is still so much more for women and men to discuss. In a world where there is still a wage gap between genders and the United States does not offer paid maternal leave (or paternal leave!), perhaps it is time for the next movement. So welcome to Rotten Little Girls, where we are trying to kick-start a new kind of revolution. Hope you enjoy reading what we have to say, and feel free to e-mail & comment our posts with your own thoughts and opinions. Constructive commentary is what we aim for, so if you have hateful things to say, please think twice before writing.

Good luck! Let us know if you ever need advice on getting into or out of trouble.
Hey! Stumbled across your (collective) blog today after reading Gala’s comments section for the first time in ages, so I guess it must be fate :) Just wanted to let you know that I think your ideas and posts so far are pretty wonderful. Feminism is far from out-dated, indeed, it’s perhaps more relevant today than the last decades of the previous century. As many (women especially) in developed countries turn increasingly against the work and equality aspects of feminism towards worship of women who they feel represent liberation (mainly of a sexual and materialistic nature), I can’t help but feel that the post-feminism era isn’t really helping women and their position in society in the future at all. Your well reasoned and passionate posts are a breath of fresh air. I will be following your blog with much interest in the future and just wanted to wish you luck!

Thank you so much for the comment! It is for people like you that we are writing (well, and for ourselves). I mean I always grew up thinking that women were “equal,” but the older I get the more I realize all the shit that we still have to deal with, and it makes me pretty sad and pissed off. If anything I love having other women (and even men) who see things the same and hopefully that can lead to some sort of progress….
So thanks again for reading, I am glad we can reach people…and we would love to hear more from you!
